Docta Ignorantia LXXVI

Facing The Wicked

By David R. Graham

The wicked are as pleased when we oppose them -- e.g., Clinton -- as when we support them, if not even more so. For, there is more committment in opposition than there is in assent, always, because assent requires a positive -- difficult -- while opposition requires only dissent -- easy. This is why we hear more cynical remarks our in the public arenas than we do faith-ful ones. The wicked thrive on this phenomenon, lusting for opponents. Newsmedia -- especially talk radio/TV -- rises on the principle. The only thing the wicked fear is being ignored. The good uphold and foster the wicked by opposing them -- unless they can terminate them, in which case opposition is appropriate. But if one can't teminate the wicked, one could leave them to their fate, which is a given.
